Gender ideology: Ron DeSantis puts Disney World under state control

Ron DeSantis signed this Monday, February 27, 2023, the HB9 (here), a bill passed earlier this month by the Florida Senate and House of Representatives that reorganizes — and eventually renames — a five-member board to oversee the government services the Disney District provides at its sprawling theme parks in state.

“ The corporate realm finally comes to an end ,” DeSantis said during a press conference on Monday near Orlando. “ There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day. “

Among those appointed to the new board tasked with controlling Disney theme park territories are Martin Garcia , a Tampa lawyer and prolific Republican donor whose private equity firm contributed $50,000 to DeSantis’ re-election effort, and Bridget Ziegler , Sarasota County school board member who co-founded the conservative organization Moms for Freedom and is the wife of Christian Ziegler , the new chairman of the Florida Republican Party.

DeSantis’s political critics say the bill appears to be retaliation for a growing feud between the company and the governor, which reached a tipping point last year with Disney’s opposition to an education bill that restricts discussion of gender orientation in the classroom. ( here)

Formally called the Parents’ Rights in Education bill, the Florida measure prohibits classroom instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity for children in kindergarten through third grade, or ages 5 to 9. , in public schools.

“ We will continue to recognize that, in the State of Florida, parents play a vital role in their children’s education, health and well-being ,” DeSantis said a year ago.

“ I don’t care what the big companies say, here I am. I will not back down ”, He repeated about the law he wanted. Disney openly opposed DeSantis’ measures, and so a battle began that continues to this day.

In March 2022, then-Disney CEO Bob Chapek had publicly expressed his disillusionment with the bill limiting LGBTQ+ discussion in schools, saying he called DeSantis to express concern about the new legislation ( here).

In 2021, DeSantis had signed a law prohibiting employers from requiring the mandatory Covid-19 vaccine for their employees, Disney World included. Violation of the law subjected small businesses to pay a fine of $10,000, ten thousand dollars per employee violation, and large companies with more than 100 employees would be fined $50,000, fifty thousand dollars per violation.(here)

What is hidden behind this war between Disney World and the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, is a fight against a certain type of multinational corporation and its ideology aligned with progressive and globalist political agendas.

DeSantis may be the new Republican party candidate for the 2024 presidential election, but before that he will have to defeat Donald Trump.
